Interview Tips for Truckers

If you’ve been called for an interview for a truck driving job remember there are some things any employer would look for regardless of the truck driving job that the employer wants to fill in. Here are some priceless tips which should help you land you truck driving job:

  • Always be on time for your truck driving job interview. No employer would be inclined to hire someone who is tardy.
  • Make sure you are properly dressed. This doesn’t mean you have to be suited, but it doesn’t mean you have to be sloppy either. An untidy appearance sends out the wrong signals.
  • Carry all the necessary documents necessary for your truck driving job. These would include CDL, your social security card or birth certificate, your Medical Certificate, and a comprehensive list of your work history over the past 10 years. This should contain the names of employers, employment period, name of contact person etc.
  • When you walk in, smile and extend your hand for a firm handshake. Be respectful at all times but adopt a confident attitude. When you speak to the interviewer make positive eye contact. Remember interviewers are trained to read body language and facial expressions.
  • Try to create an opportunity to speak about your philosophy on driving safety. Safety and dependability are two aspects interviewers look for a truck driving job not just driving skills.
  • If you have other skills and specialties other than truck driving which might benefit the company, make sure to bring them up.
  • Some interviewers intentionally try to rattle the interviewee to gauge their reaction. This happens quite frequently in truck driving job interviews. Remember however much you get provoked remain calm and reply in a modulated tone. The interviewer is trying to gauge how short-tempered you are and how you are likely to reach in a stress situation.
  • Before the interview concludes and you are invited to ask any questions focus on the prospective job and company rather than the pay and perks. This sends a signal that you are a team player.
