You will need to obtain a California CDL (commercial driver’s license) to launch your truck driving career and drive trucks, trailers, and other commercial vehicles. But to obtain a California CDL, you will need to be aware of some essential bits of information.

According to California CDL requirements, you need to be at least 18 years of age to be able to drive commercial vehicles within the state and a minimum of 21 years of age to be able to drive these inter-state vehicles. You must also possess a valid driving license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

To apply for a California CDL, you will need to fill out form DL 44 and submit it at the DMV office along with copies of your birth certificate, Social Security card, and form DL 170 that testifies to your driving skill. Also obtain a medical evaluation form and get it certified by a registered physician, testifying that you are physically and mentally fit to drive a commercial vehicle, and send it to the DMV office along with your CDL application.
